This is our kitchenette. These pictures show various stages of the build from raw Red Oak to the final finish using water based Polyurethane.
The breakfast nook area was an odd size. Too big for store bought bench seats but too small for a reasonable table and chair set. So I took measurements and came up with a design that provided comfortable seating for 10 and additional storage for seasonal linens, etc. I built the unit with both under seat storage and pull-out drawers. When finished this arrangement is capable of seating 10 adults comfortably.
A good friend of ours is an upholsterer and my wife picked out the material. Together they topped off my work with exquisite results.
The table is shown below the pictures of the bench seats!
This project was made from raw 4/4 Red Oak planks. I dimensioned the lumber to 3/4, squared and surfaced all four sides. This is a very heavy piece of furniture so I felt I had to use a dove tail joint to attached the four legs to the column. Any other joint would possibly pull apart over time. The table top and the pedestal are two separate pieces so the table can be transported.
